Balanced nutrition is essential for maintaining good urological health and preventing conditions like kidney stones.

At Sioufi Urology Clinic, we encourage our patients to follow specific nutritional recommendations to reduce the risk of kidney stone formation. Kidney stones develop when minerals and salts in the urine crystallize into solid deposits. Proper hydration and nutrition can help dilute urine and prevent this crystallization process.

The key to preventing kidney stones is staying well-hydrated. Drinking plenty of water dilutes the urine, reducing the concentration of minerals that may otherwise crystallize into stones. It is generally recommended to drink at least two liters of water daily, and even more for those living in warm climates or engaging in strenuous physical activity.

In terms of nutrition, it’s advisable to limit salt intake. Excessive sodium can lead to higher calcium levels in the urine, increasing the likelihood of calcium-based stones, the most common type. Additionally, a high intake of animal protein can elevate uric acid production, another risk factor for kidney stones.

Incorporating foods rich in fiber and moderate amounts of calcium, along with citrus fruits like lemons, can also be beneficial. Citrus fruits contain citrate, which can help dissolve certain types of stones. At Sioufi Urology Clinic, we work with patients to adjust their nutrition to minimize kidney stone risks while promoting overall urological health.
